Christmas Newsletter 2022

Happy summer everybody!

Thank goodness we are coming to the other side of lockdowns and will finally be allowed out of East Berlin.  The team and I want to wish you all a safe and happy summer period and we hope you get to reconnect with loved ones.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for continuing to come and see us.  This has been a particularly very stressful time for the self-employed,  business owners, health care workers and those home schooling. Our goal was to keep everyone employed and the doors open into 2022.  Thankfully this has happened, and thank you to everyone whom has returned for their healthcare. We really appreciate you. Just a reminder you no longer need to be an urgent case to be seen.

Just a quick update on practice news.

Our hours in 2022 will return to similar pre-August lockdown hours.

If you want to be adjusted out of Auckland during your holidays ask us for a travel card and a local Chiropractor of where you are holidaying.

When are our chiropractors back in the New Year?

Tues 11th Jan – Dr Brian
Mon 17th Jan – Dr Damon

We are super excited to welcome Dr Damon Williams in 2022. He joins us originally from South Africa and is an amazing athlete and chiropractor. He will be in the practice from this week and start with patients January 17.

He has represented New Zealand on three separate occasions in the International Taekwon-do World Championships in 2013, 2015 and 2019, acquiring medals in 2015 and 2019. Damon decided to pursue a career in Chiropractic shortly after the 2015 world championships where he participated in a study produced by the New Zealand College of Chiropractic’s Research team after sustaining injuries, marking his first experience of Chiropractic. After noticing the improvements in his athletic performance, he wanted to share this experience and help everyone from all walks of life experience the same benefit in their own quality of life.

Most common subluxation post lock down….from sitting on your butt is….

Category 1 SOT.  The excess sitting of constant zoom meetings with minimal breaks in sitting working from home since mid-August has lead to this being the most common finding in adults on their first visit back post lock down.

SOT stands for Sacro Occipital Technique, and is an arm of Chiropractic that focuses on the relationship between the Sacrum (the base of the spine) and the Occiput (the base of the neck).

These two areas act as anchor points to the Dural Membrane, which covers the brain and the spinal cord and houses the cerebrospinal fluid. The circulation of this fluid throughout the nervous system is an essential factor in good health – including for the spine, the cranium and for the body’s organs.

The circulation of cerebrospinal fluid is facilitated by a minute, rhythmic motion between the occiput and the sacrum, which is called the Sacral Pump mechanism.

When the pelvis or spine are out of alignment, the Sacral Pump mechanism is affected, which can result in pain, restricted movement, impact to organs and have a general impact on health.

The Category I phenomenon occurs when the sacro-iliac joints become misaligned (subluxated) moving one hip forward and the other backwards. The sacrum rotates and the sacral pump loses its rhythmic function, creating a distortion of the Dural Membrane around the brain and spinal cord as a result of the Category I pelvic rotation.

The asymmetric spine results, the pelvis rotates, the shoulder girdle reciprocates and the head tilts.

This distortion affects the free flow of C.S.F. The sacral pump becomes unstable and imbalanced and can no longer circulate the required amount of C.S.F. around the brain and spinal cord. This leads to lack of nutrition, increase in toxicity and lowered level of nerve function around the body.

Getting adjust with the SOT block technique has worked a trick with people.  On top of that what has helped and will continue to help people at home is if they work on their Piriformis mobilisation and stretching.  Check out the puppy helping me with this below.

This mobilisation is  known as SOTO (Step Out Toe Out) and is best done slowly, six times on each leg.  This is also a goodie after those long car trips for the summer holidays.

As we know the nervous system controls the functions of every tissue, organ and system in the body and therefore Category I symptoms maybe varied and many and may include some of the following:

  • any visceral disturbance
  • skin disorders
  • numbness in facial structures or extremities
  • insomnia
  • lower back pain
  • headaches
  • nervousness
  • weight problems

Stay well and have a wonderful end to 2021!
